On February 12, 2024, Suwa Diwiya Foundation took a meaningful step toward improving education in rural Sri Lanka by supporting young students in a remote village in Ampara District. This initiative reached the Padiyathalawa Miriswatta Sri Abhayarewatha Primary School, where students face daily challenges, including limited access to technology and essential resources due to the area’s remoteness (with even mobile signals unavailable).

Supporting the First Steps of Education

Understanding the importance of a strong foundation in education, we aimed to ensure that every first-year student at the school received the supplies they need for a successful academic journey. We donated a full set of school supplies for these young learners, including:

School books and notebooks
Pencils and other stationery
School uniforms
Lunch boxes and water bottles
School bags

These items, often taken for granted in urban areas, can be a luxury in rural settings. By providing these essentials, we hope to give these children a smoother start to their schooling experience.

Extending Support to the Entire School Community

Our commitment didn’t stop with the first-year students. We extended our support to other students in the school as well, providing additional school books, pens, pencils, and lunch boxes. Recognizing the role of creativity and expression in a well-rounded education, we also donated a musical instrument to the school. To foster a love for reading, we contributed books for the school library, aiming to inspire curiosity and a passion for learning among the children.

Nourishment for the Mind and Body

Education isn’t only about supplies; it’s also about ensuring that children have the energy and health to focus on learning. With this in mind, we were able to provide a nutritious lunch meal for all students at the school, ensuring they had the nourishment needed for a productive day
